With the aid of GOLDENSTATENET, Caltrans, the CA Transportation Commission (CTC), the CA Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), and others, the CA Department of Technology (CDT) issued a Request for Innovative Ideas (RFI2) for businesses who wish to provide equipment, assets, and services for the design, construction, and implementation of the CA Middle-Mile Broadband Infrastructure. Solutions can include but are not limited to any of the following: dark fiber, joint builds, colocation, lit fiber services, conduit, and the purchase of existing networks. Multiple awardees are possible, so solutions can also be partial, focusing on one area of the state; responses do not have to present a full statewide solution.
On December 1, 2022 an Outreach Webinar was held where interested businesses could learn more about the RFI2, the MMBI, project requirements, and where they could find resources to aid them in developing their responses. Representatives who addressed attendees' questions included Robert Payne, Program Director for the MMBI with the CDT and Erik Hunsinger, Vice President of Infrastructure for GOLDENSTATENET and CENIC.
The Phase 1 response deadline was December 30, 2022 and has passed. However, interested parties are encouraged to watch the recorded webinar available on YouTube.
